Why Pictures Are Worth More Than 1000 Words.

Product photography

I took this photo as part of a shoot for a coffee brand. What does this photo say to you?

For each person reading this, it may say something completely different. But I imagine that most people are imagining themselves sitting in this same spot, enjoying the stunning foliage and the peaceful sounds of nature all around.

There’s no cell phone with the people asking you to do things.

No kids screaming.

Just you…and your delicious coffee.

Sure that can be conveyed through words. There is no doubt about it. But when you have less than 3 seconds to convey something to a potential client or customer, words alone won’t get you there in time.

A realistic photograph can invoke long lasting emotions and connections in people within milliseconds. That is what you deserve. That is what your products deserve. You can write the best descriptions possible, but will your audience have the patience to get through it?

I am not dismissing the written word. I love it. I’m doing it right now. But I think that sometimes we all get hung up on finding all of the right words, when some of the right words and a great photo will do a better job. And for those folks who gauge interest of a product from photos first(67% of online consumers according to MDG Advertising), the photos will lead them to the beautifully written words.

It makes sense that most people neglect the photography for their products or sites. Most people don’t have experience with photography and when looking at photos of the big brands, it can feel like you need a huge budget. The truth is, what you need to find is a photographer who specializes in product and/or branding, who aligns with your vision and will listen to what you want to represent, and who fits your budget. They exist, you don’t need a million dollar budget. But if you do have a million dollar budget, you should definitely call me…..just kidding….but not really.
